Worthen gets “Family” accolade

Rena Worthen is a local genealogist given kudos by the Hatcher Family Association

Rena Worthen is a leader in Genealogical research in Botetourt County and is an asset in the genealogy room at Fincastle Library.  She is part of the local Genealogy Society as well. The Hatcher Family Association  has given her an accolade for her research work. Here’s what Rena had to say:

“I’m interested in Genealogy and always doing research for others and seldom for myself. William Hatcher born in England about 1613, and has thousands of descendants including myself. I am blessed to have five living generations.”

” I joined Nel Hatcher’s mail list in 1996. She has kept all the tid-bits that hundreds of us sent her about all Hatcher surnames and she formed the Hatcher Family Genealogical Association on October 17, 2007. http://hatcherfamilyassn.com/ is the website you can you can view the thousands of Hatcher genealogy records along with documents from the courthouse, death certificates, photos of grave markers and photos of people. Each year a contributor is chosen to be a lifetime member of the Hatcher Association for their help in contributing the flow of information at the Hatcher website. I am honored to be chosen as the 2010 Honorary Lifetime Member .

From the Hatcher Family Association:

“Our Rena, a VA native, while usually staying in the background, has been with us since the earliest days and has been a consistent and devoted contributor of Hatcher data and documents over these years. But this is only a small part of her contributions to the world of genealogy. In her spare time she has walked and recorded dozens of cemeteries, compiling and publishing at least 11 cemetery books. She is also the GenWeb county coordinator for Salem City, Nelson, Craig, Floyd, Franklin, Giles, Loudoun, Rockbridge, Botetourt, Roanoke and Patrick counties. She has also been a Findagrave contributor since 2007. Phew! She’s making me tired!” said Nel Hatcher.
