      John and Mary removed to Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, LA, in 1861 where they remained for 3 years. The old story goes that John William Florey had killed a man by sicking his bulldog on him. Rather than face the music he fled west with his wife, three kids, and a trunkful of gold (there may be some truth to the gold story. It seems that he never lacked for funds). In 1864 they removed to Overton, RuskCo, TX where they lived their remaining years.
